First Aid Kit – Ruins!

*** Unbezahlte, unbeauftragte Werbung ***

The Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit just released their fourth album Ruins. I already told you (six years ago!) how wonderful I believe the music of the two sisters sounds. These days, I seldom listen to whole albums anymore – I prefer my own playlists with the distinct songs I currently like. Ruins is the big exception – I listen to it from the first song until the last and I like them all. And by the way: The two videos below are also beautiful to watch!

Happy listening (& watching)!

French Chanson Star Edith Piaf!

Wow, the first week of the year 2018 is already over. We spent the first days of it in the (at least at two days) snowy mountains of the Harz and had a very relaxed start. Now it’s time to work again. But hey, let’s begin the daily routine with some French chanson á la Edith Piaf. …I love the rough big voice of this little lady who clearly is one of my musical heroines.

Happy listening!

1920s Style: Max Raabe!

Max Raabe’s music is really unique: His German songs in the style of the 1920s/1930s are simply mood-lifting and always have a distinct humor that makes me smile. He just released his latest album Der perfekte Moment… wird heute verpennt. It includes the wonderful song Guten Tag, liebes Glück – one of my favorite songs at the moment.

Happy listening!

From his new album: Der perfekte Moment… wird heute verpennt.

And an older one – Küssen kann man nicht alleine.

Stage Hog Udo Lindenberg!

Udo Lindenberg is a national icon – every tourist in Hamburg will be told at least one time that he lives in the Atlantic Hotel at the Alster. I am grown up with lots of songs from him – my father played Sonderzug nach Pankow and told us about the political implications of the song, Hinterm Horizont was everywhere when I grew up and in the last years Udo impressed with new interpretations of his old songs and new German rock hits.

And yes, Udo also paints and there’s even a musical. But there is one thing that really impresses me: This man is more than 70 years old and he rocks the stage heavier than any 20 year old I know.

I saw him at the Frankfurt book fair two weeks ago, where he presented his and Tine Acke’s book Stärker als die Zeit. It was hilarious to see this big entertainer on a stage, surrounded by suit-wearing bookish people …and in the end, everyone was moving to his unmistakable voice.

Have fun listening!

What I’m Listening To Right Now!

It’s time to present you once again the songs that are on my personal playlist right now. There are some old favorites of mine but also two new discoveries.

Have fun listening!

Always and for ever: The National! With the song Day I Die from their just released album Sleep Well Beast.

A fun track – Another Weekend by Ariel Pink.

Relaxing dream pop – Heavy Eyes by Palm Ghosts.

Last but not least: Another  favorite of mine – The War On Drugs with the song Up All Night from their new album A Deeper Understanding.

Si jamais j’oublie by ZAZ!

“Si jamais j’oublie – Les nuits que j’ai passé – Les guitares et les cris – Rappelle moi qui je suis – Pourquoi je suis en vie – Si jamais j’oublie – Les jambes à mon cou – Si un jour je fuis – Rappelle-moi qui je suis – Ce que je m’étais promis”

A song that’s an attitude of life: Si jamais j’oublie by  French singer-songwriter (and everybody’s darling) ZAZ. It’s from her 2015 live album Sur la route. The message of the song is simple and important: Never forget where you come from and all those wonderful experiences that created yourself, your dreams and your personality. A perfect mood-lifter for rainy late-summer days!

Happy listening!

Everything Now – A New Arcade Fire Album!

Arcade Fire concert on July 2, 2017 in Berlin. Pic by Franzi. See more on Instagram.

Arcade Fire’s new album Everything Now will be released on July 28, 2017. At the beginning of the month, me and two of my best pals were at the Arcade Fire concert in Berlin. It was a big party, where they not only played their old indie-rock hits but also some of their new tracks. If you never saw this band live, you definitely should put this onto you bucket list. They are incredibly powerful on stage and are creating a wonderful atmosphere in the audience. The few new songs, that I already listened to, only intensified my anticipation of the album.

Have a wonderful new week and happy listening!

Song of the Month: Ganz Paris träumt von der Liebe by Caterina Valente!

This month’s song is a true “oldie”: Ganz Paris träumt von der Liebe by the Italian 1950s star Caterina Valente. It just reminds me on this special summer feeling that’s already in the air: warm and heavy and wonderful…

Have a wonderful new week and happy listening!

Song of the Month: I Belong To You by Lenny Kravitz!

This month’ song I Belong To You by Lenny Kravitz is one of two wedding songs from Isa and André. So, let’s celebrate the two a bit more and dance through this fresh week.

Happy listening!

Song of the Month: Cloud 9 by Jamiroquai!

The British band Jamiroquai is back – with their brand-new album Automaton! Today’s song Cloud 9 reminds me – in a good way 😀 – on my teenage years in the 1990s (Jamiroquai was everywhere back then!). The song is funky, dancy and mood-lifting. So, let’s meet on the dance floor!

Happy (funky) listening!
