Late-Summer / Early-Fall Vacation 2017: At the Darss!

A small artwork I found at the “Weststrand” (west beach) near Ahrenshoop. All pics by Franzi.

It’s already one long week ago since we came back from our vacation at the Bay of Barth at the Darss. It was such a relaxing time: With lots of books, ice-cream, delicious meals, day trips – and even a bath in the (cold) Baltic Sea. Here are some impressions of those two fantastic weeks for you.

I wish you a wonderful new week! Have a wonderful time :)!

We made two hiking trips near Barth:

At Barth’s harbor we observed stunning sunsets:

Both of us adore the “Weststrand” (west beach) between Ahrenshoop and Prerow:

We also made a day trip to the city Greifswald, which we both really liked:

The old harbor in Greifswald.

The old wooden bridge in Wieck.

The stunning ruins of the monastery Eldena – famous because artist Casper David Friedrich painted them.

The Bay of Greifswald.

What Are You Looking Forward To This Summer?

Pic by Franzi.

I asked my pals: “What are you looking forward to this summer?” Surprisingly, their answers turned out quite variable – from gardening, hiking tours, mild nights or going to festivals. What would I answer? Spending time with those wonderful people, of course (and enjoying the brightness of warm lazy summer days). Here are all the inspirational answers I got (this time I also wrote their original German answers as well)…

Meline (student): “Since for me summer means that I have no exams or lectures, I am mostly looking forward to the free time during which I can do spontaneous things with my pals and my boyfriend.” // “Da ich Sommer mit klausuren- und vorlesungsfreier Zeit verbinde, freue ich mich am meisten auf die Zeit, in der ich spontan Dinge mit Freunden und meinem Freund unternehmen kann.”

Panzanella!

PanzanellaPic by Franzi.

Here comes one of the many dishes we prepared during the last two weeks on our summer vacations. This one is an Italian classic: Panzanella! It’s easy to prepare (but needs some time to marinate) and tastes like a day in Tuscany!

Recipe: Serves 4.

Ingredients:

2 loaves of one day old crusty baguette (cubed), 2 garlic cloves (minced), 6 thyme twigs (mince the leaves), 800 g cherry tomatoes (halved), 1 cucumber (peeled, halved and cubed), 2 red onions (cut into rings), 500 g buffalo mozzarella (cubed), 1 bunch of basil (cut the leaves into small pieces), olive oil, aceto balsamico, salt, pepper.

Preparation:

Spread the bread cubes onto a baking tray, sprinkle with app. 2 TblSps olive oil and bake at 200°C for app. 10-12 minutes. Allow to cool.

Mix garlic, app. 6 TblSps aceto balsamico, salt, thyme and pepper. Put tomatoes, cucumber cubes and onions into a big bowl. Mix app. 10 TblSps olive oil with the marinade and add to the vegetables. Store in the fridge for app. 30 minutes. Add 2/3 of the bread cubes and let marinade at least another hour in the fridge. Serve with mozzarella and the remaining bread cubes. Garnish with the basil leaves.

Enjoy!

The Island of my Dreams: Hiddensee!

Hiddensee13My Grandma’s book about Hiddensee from 1952. All pics by Franzi.

We are still at the Baltic sea in our summer vacations. Last Thursday and Friday we were on my beloved island Hiddensee. It was the first time for me that I spent a night on the island and it was wonderful! I love its rough nature, the water all around and the pretty little houses. Here are some photos to give you an impression of this little spot of heaven :)…

I wish you a wonderful start into the fresh week – have a sunny one!

Maritime Living!

cupsOne cup for me & one for him :). Pic by Franzi.

Since I am on vacation at the Baltic Sea, the inventory of my wardrobe has to pause for two weeks. But here are also some beautiful looking things arround: Yesterday we shopped those two hand-made maritime cups in this little shop. …Two souvenirs, that will us make remember those wonderful summer days near the water :).

Have a beautiful day!

Summer Vacations 2016: The first Days at the Baltic Sea!

we3The stormy coastline in Zingst.. All pics by Franzi.

Our summer vacations 2016 just started. Friday we drove to the Baltic Sea. Here we are staying in Barth and plan to have lots of sun (or maybe stormy) baths at the beach in Zingst. Yesterday we were at the isle of Rügen with its rough nature and impressing cliff coast! Here are some impressions of those first vacation days…

I wish you a wonderful start into the fresh week – have a relaxed one!

Inventory: Dresses!

DressesMy collection of dresses. Pic by Franzi.

Dresses are my favorite garments – I wear them more or less daily. They are loose and comfy and are the best fit for my figure. In total, I (only) own nine dresses: Four for festive occasions, one warm dress for winter, one cool dress for summer and three dresses for every day. I should definitely look out for more dresses. Only three dresses for every day a far too less… You remember the ten jeans I am never wearing, right ;)?

Have a beautiful day!

Biking Adventure!

BikeThe bike that hopefully had carried me to Büsum :)! All Pics by Franzi.

Hopefully, I am in Büsum right now. The plan was to start Friday in Hamburg, then cycling within three days to Büsum at the North Sea. Those are 150 km! Tomorrow I will be back in Hamburg – pictures will follow soon ;).

I wish you a wonderful start into the fresh week – have a moving one!

Why I Love Hamburg: Planten un Blomen’s Water-Light Concerts!

PB2The illuminated fountains! All Pics by Franzi.

Hamburg’s biggest park has the funny name Planten un Blomen (“plants and blooms”). During the summer months there’s a nightly fountain show, playing with light and music, the Wasserlichtkonzerte (water-light concerts)! It’s absolutely worth to watch (and hear). I attended it for the first time last week and was smitten! Why wasn’t I there before? Now I have found one more reason why I love this city with its funny names for places (Here’s one more: I live at the Schlump, which stands for “sludge”!) and wonderful places.

I wish you a wonderful start into the fresh week – have a colorful one!

Wardrobe Wish List!

Upper Row: Shirt by Armedangels – Skirt by Armedangels – Coat by Armedangels.
Lower Row: Dress by Peopletree – Dress by Peopletree – Sweater by Peopletree.

Today just a few wardrobe pieces I really wish to have. A new skirt for spring and summer would be nice. Oh, and those two dresses. The sweater isn’t bad either :). I guess I have to decide now, which one is worth to move into my flat.

Which piece do you like the most?
