He Says/She Says… Pocket Squares, a Yes or No?

Pic by Franzi.

There are some fashion trends men and women seem to have completely different opinions about. – Ballet flats for example. Women think they are cute and girly (and comfy), but I realized that most men I knew wouldn’t agree. They clearly prefer high heels (no surprise, I guess). So let’s talk about fashion. Funny enough, we start today with men’s fashion. What do you think about pocket squares?

She says (Franzi):

When Stephan told me that he would like to wear his suit with a pocket square my first reaction was a clear: “No! Why?!” In my opinion pocket squares are old-fashioned and should be worn by old, elegant men or snobs, not by young, confident men. Okay, it’s possible that the pocket square adds a touch of color to otherwise grey/black/dark blue suits. However, it also looks a bit like a tissue that peeks out of the suit jacket pocket, and not like an expensive accessory for men… But let’s hear Stephan’s view:

He says (Stephan):

When Franzi reacted with a “No! Why?!”, I was a bit dumbfounded why she would bother. Let me give you a couple of reasons a pocket square is amazing, imho. First of all, old-fashioned is a very similar word to classic. And timeless, affordable classics are hard to come by when you do not have a black Amex in your wallet. A pocket square is very affordable, but at the same time does not make you look cheap at all. It is a good way to jump out of a grey mass of people wearing navy-blue or grey suits without going crazy in the color of your suit. Furthermore, how many accessories can a man really wear? Watch, (bow-)tie, … pocket square! And finally, ladies out there, James Bond and Ryan Gosling don’t wear suits without one. I think those are the best example for confident, classy, young men.

So what do you think: Does a pocket square remind you more of James Bond or more of an old man/snob? Let us know!

Inventory: My Wardrobe in Total Numbers!

wardrobe3The door is my wardrobe – loaded with dresses, cardigans, bags and scarves! Pics by Franzi.

It all started with finding out about the Project 333: Every 3 months you choose 33 items from your wardrobe (including shoes, coats, accessories – excluding underwear and sportswear) and those are the only 33 items you will wear during the next season. Since I am a big fan of sustainable ways of living, I asked myself if I would dare to live with only 33 pieces for 3 months. Then I realised that I had no idea how many items I actually have in my wardrobe (or in the accessories box)… and started to count:

23 buttons,

20 necklaces,

45 earrings,

9 bangles,

24 scarves,

10 jeans,

12 T-shirts,

7 coats,

22 skirts,

11 belts.

10 dresses (I just bought a new one),

22 cardigans,

9 blouses,

24 shirts,

36 shoes,

6 bags,

11 sweaters.

This makes the enormous sum of 301 items!!! …And I didn’t count my tights!

Okay, I don’t dare the Project 333. But it was a real eye-opener to actually count my jeans, earring, scarves… Do you have any idea how many items are hidden in your wardrobe? Let me know if you count an equally high number! Fun fact:  I always think I have nothing to wear (who does?).

Have a beautiful day!

Inventory: Sweaters!

pullover1All my (dark-colored) sweaters. Pics by Franzi.

I nearly made it! I have counted my whole wardrobe – the only things left are… sweaters! I found eleven sweaters in the back of my drawers: Three in dark blue, three in green, two in brown, one in white, one in grey and one in black. I seem to prefer darker colors on cooler days ;). Mmh, maybe I should make a calculation now how many items I have in total in my wardrobe. Let’s do this next week!

Inventory: Bags!

bags4Three of my bags. Pics by Franzi.

So, let’s count my bags! I have: One HUGE rucksack (which I carry on my back nearly everyday), one brown leather tote (which I often combine with the rucksack to have easy access to my keys and money), one (girly) beach bag (which I also use in the city) and three bags I nearly never use (one from the 1990s, one was a recent gift and one for special occasions). This makes six bags. …Plus, an enormous red travel rucksack (what else?), a small travel bag, one big travel bag and one gigantic travel bag (which has already holes and is only used when I am moving flats).

Have a beautiful day!

bags1My beloved rucksack (you can see me everyday with this monster on my bag).

bags3My good-old (girly) beach bag!

bags5Three more: Two bags for the beach and one tote for special occasions.
