I just realized that I didn’t write about my innumerous art icons for a while. So I decided that it’s safe to present you another one. Helmut Newton impressed me already with the very first picture I saw from him. Back in time, I was trying my own first and insecure steps in nude photography and to see the ingenuity of Newton’s shoots made me speechless. Helmut Newton was born as Helmut Neustädter 1920 in Berlin and lived later (together with his wonderful Australian wife June) in Australia, Monaco and L.A. (where he died in a car accident in the year 2004). He became famous when he started to make pictures for the Vogue magazine and soon established himself as fashion photographer. And his urban-erotic style made him to one of the most demanded (and expensive) in the fashion world!
Do you remember my other Art Icons? Miró, Sugimoto, Bauhaus, Man Ray!
Naked and Dressed, Paris, 1981 … that’s exactly how his pics will always look like in my mind. Maybe it’s because THIS was the first exhibition I saw of him.
Fashion, 1960… It was the fashion photography that made him famous!
Yves Saint Laurent, Vogue France, Rue Aubriot, Paris, 1975... Some of Newton’s pics always remember me on Brassaï with a certain modern twist! Don’t you think the same?
Fashion… None of Newton’s models had ever had an easy job 😉
A Scene from Pina Bausch’s Ballet 1983… Strange, but somehow beautiful!
And finally this one… Sexy, clean, sophisticated. What to expect more from a photograph?
