Michael Carson’s Paintings

I didn’t post about paintings for a while: One reason is that I don’t wanna bore you with all of my art idols (there are many painters among them, but most of you surely have heard about them on other occasions already), but I also have to admit that with regard to contemporary art, I’m most of the times much stronger inspired by photography, installations or street art. It’s a very rare occasion that I’m smitten immediately with a contemporary painter. But that’s exactly what happened when I stumbled over the work of American painter (and musician) Michael Carson. What I love most are the women (he also paints men and other themes) in his pictures and the atmosphere he creates by their surroundings, his distinct seamless brushstrokes as well as the dramatic use of light. Actually, his paintings make me think on the work of Toulouse-Lautrec. Ah, there it is again… an art idol of mine!
