Sitting in my warm apartment, snuggled up in a blanket with a good book (currently Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert) is one of my favorite treats at the moment. If it would be accompanied by a hot cup of chocolate (Yes. With marshmallows, please.), I wouldn’t leave this comfy place forever…
Actually, chocolate should be claimed as a drug, but as one that makes us all happy! And also its history is quite interesting: Did you know that archaeologists found evidence of the oldest known cultivation and use of cacao at a site in Puerto Escondido, Honduras, dating from about 1100 to 1400 BC?1 And there is more: After chocolate was introduced in Europe in the 17th century, in many catholic countries a huge discussion started whether hot chocolate consumption is allowed during Lenten season (because it is a drink) or forbidden (because it was seen as a sweet treat).2 I don’t know how you would decide it, but I will always and forever vote pro chocolate!
