What Are You Looking Forward To This Summer?

Pic by Franzi.

I asked my pals: “What are you looking forward to this summer?” Surprisingly, their answers turned out quite variable – from gardening, hiking tours, mild nights or going to festivals. What would I answer? Spending time with those wonderful people, of course (and enjoying the brightness of warm lazy summer days). Here are all the inspirational answers I got (this time I also wrote their original German answers as well)…

Events & Actions:

Stephan: “I am looking forward to the summer vacations and all those upcoming concerts.” // “Auf den Sommerurlaub und die ganzen Konzerte.”

Markus: “Open Airs.” // “Open Airs.”

Claudi (my mum): “I am looking forward to the brightness of the days (because one gets more things done), to wearing summer dresses and to ride the bicycle.” // “Ich freue mich über die längere Helligkeit, weil man mehr schaffen kann, über das Tragen von Sommerkleidchen und über das Fahrradfahren.”

Dania: “I am looking forward to Jacobs and Sevs wedding in France amd the accompanying vacations.”// “Auf Jacobs and Sevs Hochzeit und den das Ereignis begleitenden Urlaub.”

Jessica (just started a new job): “I am looking forward to finally wear skirts at work. There is no aircon anymore, that will hinder me doing it.” // “Ich freue mich darauf, endlich Röcke bei der Arbeit anziehen zu können. Es gibt keine Klimaanlage mehr, die mich daran hindern kann.”

Meline (student): “Since for me summer means that I have no exams or lectures, I am mostly looking forward to the free time during which I can do spontaneous things with my pals and my boyfriend.” // “Da ich Sommer mit klausuren- und vorlesungsfreier Zeit verbinde, freue ich mich am meisten auf die Zeit, in der ich spontan Dinge mit Freunden und meinem Freund unternehmen kann.”

Steffi: “Sailing.” // “Segeln.”

Vivien: “I am looking forward to not freezing anymore, to warm evenings on the balcony, to BBQs, to staying outside with friends, to Open Airs, to the vacations and the Lollapalooza festival.” // “Darauf, nicht mehr frieren zu müssen, auf warme Abende auf dem Balkon, auf das Grillen, das Draußen sein mit Freunden, auf Open Airs, den Urlaub und das Lollapalooza.”

Today I have to say hello to a little lady in Berlin who just discovered this world. Thus, no weekend review today! But can there be a better reason :)?

I wish you a wonderful start into the fresh week. Have a fantastic time!

It’s not that long ago that I dedicated a whole week to the topic of Happiness. Actually I planed the long-promised Osnabrück city guide for today. But life cannot always be planned and now you have to wait for one more week before I reveal all of Osnabrück’s secret places. Today, happiness is more important. During the last week I realised (once again) how important a good spirit is. As I just started my freelance career (?), I had to face some days that were loaded with not-that-optimistic thoughts and a tiny motivation gap. But then I went to our allotment garden and guess what? After only 30 minutes I felt pure happiness and refreshed and ready to go on. So, I think it’s time to remember that it are the small things in life that make one really happy instead of waiting for the bigger goals (career, the right partner, the future….) to become reality.

These are the small things that make me happy:

* Banana Milk!

* Gardening!

* Bread Baking!

* To Ride my bike and look up in the sky!

* Rain on my skin (yeah, I know I’m strange)!

* The sea on a rough fall day!

* Running!

* A hot bath (Oh, how I long for my own bath tub)!

* To sit in an old coffeehouse with cake and my friends!

* Watching my favorite crime series (Always and forever Tatort)!

* Music (This always works.)!

* Standing at the balcony and watching the stars!

* Dancing!

* Observing I dog or any other pet!

* Calling a good friend!

* Reading a good book!

* A good night’s sleep!

* Writing a blog post!

The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin!

A few months ago I visited a friend of mine in Cologne and by accident I came across Gretchen Rubin’s book The Happiness Project. Like I told you already (several times) I am a big fan of Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert and this book sounded like it could keep up with it:

Gretchen Rubin had an epiphany while riding the bus. She asked herself what she wants from life. Her answer was simply to be happy. But was she happy or were there ways to enhance the happiness factor in her life? This was the beginning of a year-long experience – she started a happiness project. Each month she set herself goals: For example, January was dedicated to boost energy, February to remember love, June to make time for friends or September to pursue a passion. After I read it I must admit that Eat, Pray, Love is still my number one. Nevertheless, Gretchen’s ideas to fulfill her goals and commitments are innovative, well investigated and often extremely funny. I just started to practise one of her advises: To sing in the morning. Three times a week, my mornings start at 5am, so a bit happiness is urgently needed … and singing really is working. The book is filled with a ton of other ideas and insights, which makes it absolutely recommendable. Go and read it yourself. And then – maybe – start your own happiness project :).

One small anecdote: While reading the book in the train last week, my seatmate read the title and told me that he thinks I am looking happy anyway. This was a very nice comment and is reflecting in a very good way my own perception :)!

I wish you a weekend filled up with as much HAPPINESS as even possible 🙂 !

Happy Dressing!

Happy DessingI, II, III, IV, V, VI

If you’re feeling extremely happy which colors would you wear? Yes, of course – those would be bright ones and a mix of sunny shades. Moreover, I would choose something airy to feel comfortable in. Something to enjoy springtime or the summer heat or a walk through the nature. Dresses and wide skirts are always ideal for a happy (girly) mood. I tried to create a happy outfit today – the result you can see above. And now tell me: What are you wearing in a state of pure happiness (or to motivate this state with the help of your outfit)?
