The Books I’ve Read: Shenzhen – A Travelogue From China by Guy Delisle!

Two weeks ago I participated at a book „chain letter“ (I know, I know… but hey it was about books ;)). One of the first books I found in my mailbox was Shenzhen – a travelogue from China by the Canadian Québécois author Guy Delisle. Since reading a graphic novel was on my to-do list anyway, I started reading it immediately.

The ‚travelogue‘ documents in black and white pictures Delisle’s three-month deployment in 1997 to Shenzhen, where he worked in a Chinese studio. The graphic novel depicts his struggles with boredom, and the difficulties he had with life in a Chinese mega city. The fun thing for me was that I myself know someone who stayed in Shenzhen in the end of the 1990s. Back then he documented his experiences in a travel blog and EVERYTHING sounded strange and foreign to me. This made Delisle’s story something like a time capsule for me. Perfect book present – thanks to the person who sent it to me :)!

I wish you a fun weekend – enjoy your city :)!
