Iluminated Reality: The work of Philip Barlow

The figures in the landscape serve as carriers and reflectors of the light that falls upon them. Bathed in the luminosity, it is my hope that they would become more beautiful. To me, light is the ultimate subject because it embodies the pinnacle of all reality.

South African painter Philip Barlow’s pictures make me think about hot summery days that seem to be endless and will leave a memory of a blurred vision, shapeless silhouettes and dots or rays of light. It’s exactly how the last days will stay in my mind through the next months, no matter how rainy, cold and grey these will be.

I wish you all a summery weekend!
