Every time I visited my grand parents as a child and my granny Ruth asked me, what I would like to eat I answered: „Saure Kartoffelstückchen“. I am so glad I was clever enough to ask her after the recipe before she was gone… Despite I eat it through all seasons, it is the ultimate comfort food when its crisp and cold outside. Enjoy!
Recipe serves 4:
1. Peel 1kg potatos, cut them into pieces. Peel and chop one onion. Put everything into a large pot, add water until all is covered, add one bay leave and some caraway. Bring everything to cook.
2. Cut one glass of gherkins into pieces and add them to the pot. Cook for 20 minutes.
3. Prepare some roux and add together with the pickle juice to the stew, boil up again.
4. Spice the stew with salt, caraway and chopped parsley.
… Meat lovers should add some minced meat or sliced wieners.
