Stage Hog Udo Lindenberg!

Udo Lindenberg is a national icon – every tourist in Hamburg will be told at least one time that he lives in the Atlantic Hotel at the Alster. I am grown up with lots of songs from him – my father played Sonderzug nach Pankow and told us about the political implications of the song, Hinterm Horizont was everywhere when I grew up and in the last years Udo impressed with new interpretations of his old songs and new German rock hits.

And yes, Udo also paints and there’s even a musical. But there is one thing that really impresses me: This man is more than 70 years old and he rocks the stage heavier than any 20 year old I know.

I saw him at the Frankfurt book fair two weeks ago, where he presented his and Tine Acke’s book Stärker als die Zeit. It was hilarious to see this big entertainer on a stage, surrounded by suit-wearing bookish people …and in the end, everyone was moving to his unmistakable voice.

A Song For Tuesday: Coming Home by Leon Bridges!

Today I will travel again to Berlin. Thus, I thought Leon Bridges’ song Coming Home would be fitting :). Moreover, I simply love his retro-soul style and voice.

A Song For Tuesday: Surrender by Konni Kass!

Unfortunately it was not possible for me to attend this year’s Reeperbahn Festival. Thanks to Social Media I was at least able to get an impression of some of the performances there. This is how I found Konni Kass‘ song Surrender. The singer and her band are based at the Faroe Islands – their tunes have this clear Nordic sound I really like. Her first album will be released in November and I believe that I will like more of her songs as well!

A Song For Tuesday: Love and Hate by Michael Kiwanuka!

Today’s song Love and Hate by British soul musician Michael Kiwanuka comes from his just released second album with the same title. Its relaxed, honest, straight-forward retro-soul sound fits perfectly with my Tuesday morning mood :)!

A Song for Tuesday: Running With the Wolves by AURORA!

Last Friday I saw singer-songwriter AURORA at her concert in Hamburg. I didn’t know a lot about her, only her catchy song Running with the Wolves, but her performance was quite convincing. The 19-year-old Norway singer is a real power lady. Hopefully, we will hear more from her in the future!

A Song For Tuesday: Can’t Get Enough Of Myself by Santigold!

The song I can’t get enough of myself from the new album 99 cents by artist Santigold is pure fun and good mood music. Just the right thing for your ears on these first days of spring.

Natalie Prass!

Natalie Prass? Natalie Prass! I heard this name several times before I was able to memorize it. Every time a song by the singer-songwriter was played somewhere I resolved to myself to look her up later. Finally her debut album was released earlier this year and suddenly she seems to appear on every music blog. So, her beautiful light music isn’t a secret anymore …and she finally got her place on my playlist.

Something For The Heart: Ed Sheeran!

I like listening to the radio while falling asleep. Then, sometimes, a song creeps into my half-dreams and that’s the moment I ask Soundhound what song this may be. On rare occasions the same interpret appears repeatedly on my screen. …And then a friend sends a message: “Do you know Ed Sheeran?”. Yes, I know his tunes. They are fantastic, warm and intense. Something for the heart in those long dark winter nights.

Music Heroine: Sinéad O’Connor!

There are seldom voices that will stay forever in our minds… But is there anyone from age 25 to 40, who doesn’t know instantly Sinéad O’Connor’s Nothing Compares 2 U? Her voice is incredibly soft – nearly fairy-like – and at the same time has an enormous power. I know that her life was trouble-some and that she was often perceived as a trouble-maker herself. Nevertheless, I do really like that she stands for the things she’s convinced of and that she always did it her own way.

Girl Crush: Jessie Ware!

Sometimes I feel like a real GIRL. A beautiful voice, a tough lady and a text that speaks to my current feelings…that’s all I need to love a song. Wether it’s pop or rock or indie or… it doesn’t matter. That’s exactly how Jessie Ware’s song Wildest Moments came into my playlist (and since then was played again and again and again). It’s nothing you would find usually in my music collection, but this lady just has it all. And if I might make a (very subjective) prediction about her future career… the next Alicia Keys may be found 😉 .
