Two Days Back in Berlin!

The Müggelsee. Pics by Franzi.

The last two days I spent in Berlin with dear friends, my god-son and his siblings. It’s always wonderful to be back in the city of my own childhood. Looking at the Müggelsee reminds me on my own young years. And do you also smell spring already? I saw the first blooms and despite the fact that it’s still grey outside the warmer season is coming closer!

I wish you a wonderful week! Look out for those beautiful early bloomers :)!

Daffodil season!

Two little reasons to always come back to Berlin! (And yes, my godson wears a sock instead of a glove.)

Home!

I am home and safe… The last two days in Berlin were crazy, in a bad way. Hopefully it will be calmer now, so that everyone has the chance to enjoy those last days before X-Mas. There’s no snow, but its freezing: Let’s light a fire and relax.

Have a beautiful day!

Goodbye Osna!

OSPic by Franzi.

The longest move of all times will end this week. On Friday I will leave my flat in Osnabrück FOR GOOD! I thought about a long goodbye letter to this city that I call myself my comfort zone. But I am sure that I will come back on a regular basis. So, no goodbye letter needed.

I wish you a wonderful week! …I will clean my balcony now.

More Pretty Rooms!

After moving, I had to think about my own interior design. Then it actually turned out to look like my old flat – with some little adjustments. But those rooms are pretty inspirational…

Cozy Blankets!

At the moment I am the cozy type. The whole day long I am thinking about lying down on my sofa, wrapped by a comfy blanket. …Not that I would ever really do it, but a girl has her dreams ;).

Those Dreamy Rooms!

I will not move until June, but already I am dreaming about decorating my new rooms in Hamburg. Those following rooms are true inspirations! … I guess I have to look out for a loft or an old industrial building ;).

Hippie Listening: Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros!

What sound fits better to summer than some hippie music? Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros deliver just the right tunes for this purpose. It’s easy listening at a very high niveau. Incredibly how the whole bands fits on a stage and how they do create such harmonic tunes! I guess, every single band member is crazy, but that seems to be the magic ingredient to their sound. Love it! Oh, and did I already mention that I don’t only think that Edward Sharpe is a fantastic singer but that he also looks like someone I would really like to date ;)?

Have fun while listening!

What I Think About When I Think About … BERLIN!

BerlinPic by Franzi.

Today I came back from the city I’m born in, the city I grew up: Berlin. I never really wrote about my feelings in regard to this city. The reason is simple: It’s an ambivalent topic for me. This feels somehow strange because everyone loves his or her hometown. And so do I: I’m raised in Köpenick and spent the biggest part of my childhood and adolescence in Friedrichshagen – a district in Berlin I love more than any other place in the world. Because that’s where I came from, because it’s where I feel save. But Berlin is more than this little piece of heaven in its eastern part.

Berlin for once is biiiig. If I call a friend and tell her that I will be on my way to meet her immediately… than two (!) hours later I will be there finally. In between the cool kids in the U-Bahn (tube) are behaving like I would be the tourist and Berlin belongs only to the hipsters. Thank god I am also a fan of totes – at least they didn’t realize that I am not on my way to hang out with other cool kids in Friedrichshain. Second, some places in Berlin really smell – dog poo, garbage, pee. The odour of a big city. Some places also don’t feel very safe. You get used to strange people, to poor people, to aggressive looking people. ….Those are the low sides.

But one thing is clear: I do love Berlin:

* It’s colorful mix of people, its tons of creative power: Where else do you find as many artists or entrepreneurs as in Berlin?

* Its cultural life! Every day offers new possibilities in Berlin: New exhibitions or fairs or parties, new interesting people to meet, new chances to develop new ideas.

* I do love Berlin for even more: For its architecture, its traffic system, its culture and also for its rough  and unique character…

I just don’t know if I would love to live there someday again. My family and friends are good arguments, but I’m still not ready to conquer this city every day. Maybe the day will come again. I guess there’s hope …and meanwhile I’m enjoying myself a while longer in my comfort zone, good old Osnabrück 🙂

I wish you a wonderful start into the new week. May it be an inspirational one!

Happy B-Day Isa! Have a great one in a great city with an even greater guy.

DIY Home Decoration Ideas!

Outside it’s getting colder and colder. X-Mas is waiting, the first wish lists for Santa are already written and everyone concentrates on living inside in a comfortable home now. Before the holiday season really starts and we are allowed to decorate our flats with sparkling angels and X-Mas baubles, it’s time for a little handcrafts to make our homes even more comfy. It’s raining again? Oh, I don’t care – I sit in my warm living room preparing a garland 🙂

Have a nice (and comfy) week everyone!

Summer in the City

Pic by Franzi

Ha, again a summer post! I’m being back in Berlin for a few days and the city is filled with tourists from all kinds of different countries. Everything feels like holidays. However, not everyone has the time and/or money to spend their free days abroad or at least somewhere else away from home. But honestly – is that a reason to not getting into a summer holiday mood at all?! I don’t think so! Here comes my list of ideas on how to spend a perfect summer in the city (…or village).

A picnic in the park.

Long BBQs with friends.

Go into the zoo (…and take some kids with you. Their enthusiasm is totally  infecting!).

Again: Open-air cinema on a warm summer night!

Spending a day on a lake.

A bike-trip into the urban hinterland.

On rainy days: Go to a museum!

A Cooking Party with a bunch of friends.

Gardening (and it doesn’t matter if you only have a few herbs on your window sill or a whole garden). Simply relaxing!

Go to a yoga class! Or go running. Or play beach volleyball with friends. Or just keep on moving.

Go to a concert.

Spend a whole day at your favorite coffee bar with a good book!

Buy a bunch of glossy magazines (or my secret favorites: comic books), search a nice green spot of lawn, lay down on a blanket and reeeelax!

Go to the farmers market, buy fresh fruits and prepare jam (and you will have summery memories even on a winter breakfast).

Bake a cake.

Get up early and take a swim in an outdoor pool.

Write postcards to your friends and family. It’s always nice to find something in your mail box. Even if it’s coming from your next door 🙂

Collect wild flowers from the wayside / field edges / a river bank.

…. Have a nice start into the next summery week everyone!
